SLEEP ERGONOMICS & MATTRESSES
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR MATTRESS
Giving the body and mind sufficient rest and recovery at night greatly depends on having a mattress that supports your body correctly. Choose your mattress carefully and beware of low quality mattresses that are too firm or too soft.
When sleeping on a firm mattress, the unsupported gap between the mattress and your body can lead to tension and force the body in to a poor position. If the mattress is too soft, the pelvis sinks too far into the mattress and makes the spine arch.
More important qualities are elasticity and a material that supports your body sufficiently. The mattress should mould to the contours of your body, support the waist and lumbar region, and be flexible in the area of the pelvis and shoulders. Especially curvy bodies need a mattress that moulds to the contours of the body and supports them as well as possible.
GETTING ACCUSTOMED TO THE NEW MATTRESS
It can take some time to get used to a new mattress, because it will often change the position of your spine when you sleep. This may mean that you experience some discomfort for the first couple of weeks in a new mattress until your body becomes used to the new feeling.
The TEMPUR Mattress is ideal for you regardless of whether you weigh 40 or 130 kg. The TEMPUR Material distributes your weight evenly across the whole mattress, thus relieving pressure. Changes in body weight will not matter either, as the mattress moulds to your contours automatically as a result of the heat and weight of the body.
YOU SHOULD CONSIDER CHANGING YOUR MATTRESS IF:
- The mattress is too soft or has developed a depression.
- The mattress feels so hard that it interferes with your falling asleep and disturbs your sleep.
- Your body feels sore in the morning and your back is stiff. Note that a stiff back does not necessarily mean that you have to replace the mattress, because it can be caused by a variety of reasons.
- You are often tossing and turning in the bed, as this can be due to too much pressure being imposed on various areas of your body. The pressure prevents normal surface circulation so you have to turn a lot during the night.
